Correspondence with the Monastic Council, 2008-2012

 Sub-Series — Box: OSBCHI-A-118-1, Folder: 11
Identifier: OSBCHI-A-118

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The materials in this series relate to the work of Sister Patricia Crowley, OSB with the departments and ad hoc committees of the monastery. The Benita sub-series was compiled by Sister Patricia Crowley, OSB herself and contains materials related to her meetings with Sister Benita Coffey, OSB who served as vocation director, oblate director, and social justice coordinator. Each year, Sisters are commissioned for certain roles in the monastery and in the surrounding community. Although Sisters now consult with the prioress about the work they will do, these are still often affectionately refered to as obediences, recalling the days when the assignments sometimes came as a surprise. Sister Patricia Crowley, OSB convened a Group of Elders for Sisters aged 80 and above. It met monthly and was a place where elder Sisters could receive titrated information and ask more questions. Under Sister Patricia Crowley, OSB, the elder Sisters were excused (but not excluded) from the monastic chapter meetings. The Sisters of St. Benedict, LA became members of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago during the term of Sister Patricia Crowley, OSB. They live in and around New Orleans, Louisiana.
