Creator

Biographical / Historical

Sara Benedicta O'Neill (1869-1954) was the owner of St. Benet's Library and Book Shop in the Loop. Several Sisters have told of visiting her bookstore when they were teens in Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), as students at nearby DePaul University, or accompanying their parents to the shop as children. An oblate of Monte Cassino Abbey in Italy, she was a Catholic scholar whose book shop was a hub of Catholic intellectual life in Chicago in the mid 20th century during the years of the liturgical movement.
