Biographical / Historical
Sister Mathilda Buscher, OSB was born Emilie on May 1st, 1854 in Chicago, Illinois to German and Bavarian parents. She entered the Benedictine Community on August 1st, 1871, making her first vows in 1873. Her postulancy was interrupted by the Chicago fire. She made her eternal profession on her deathbed and died 3 weeks later on December 5, 1873 at the age of 19. She is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery. Her younger sister Elizabeth became Sister Amelia Buscher, OSB, who is also buried next to her sister.
