Biographical / Historical
Sister Katherine Callero, OSB was born Katherine in Chicago on April 27th, 1936 to a Dutch mother and an Italian father. She entered the community on September 12th, 1954, making her first vows on April 28th, 1956. Her date of final profession was August 16th, 1959. Sister Katherine took the name Sister Mary Joan in religion, but returned to her baptismal name after Vatican II.
In Chicago, Sister served as a teacher at Saint Hilary School, Saint Symphorosa School, and Queen of All Saints School. She also taught at Saint Michael in Canon City, Colorado. Sister Katherine began nurse's training at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in September of 1971. She requested to be dispensed from her vows in October, 1971 and her departure was November 12, 1971. She continued her nurse's training at Lutheran General Hospital.
