Scope and Contents

This collection contains a hanging file folder of personal data mixed materials and one box of personal papers arranged into three series: Community life, Correspondence, and Articles, writings and awards. These materials pertain to subjects such as Louise Eggen's journey in community and her work in hospital chaplaincy. Personal papers include correspondence with the entire community, as well as with the community archivist Sr. Vivian Ivantic, OSB (1913-) and her assistant Sr. Eleanor Hillenbrand, OSB (1924-2019), articles from local and hospital news publications, awards, and other previously published material.

Sisters' papers are restricted for 50 years after the Sister's death, until August 1, 2061. Photographs, previously published, and widely distributed materials are unrestricted.

Biographical / Historical

Louise Eggen (1952-) was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and grew up in Missouri. She became acquainted with the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago when she worked at our summer camp San Benito in Canon City, Colorado. Louise served as support staff and administration at Saint Scholastica Academy-Canon and as infirmarian at Saint Scholastica Monastery in Chicago, Illinois and in hospitals in Missouri. Louise was a member of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago 1983-2009.
