Monastery records are restricted for 50 years after creation. Sisters' papers are restricted for 50 years after the Sister's death. Photographs, previously published, and widely distributed materials are unrestricted.
Biographical / Historical
Sr. Jane (Mary Paul) Reilly (1920-1990) grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago where she attended St. Gertrude and St. Jerome Schools. After graduating from Saint Scholastica High School, she entered the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago on Spetember 11, 1937. She made her perpetual vows August 16, 1942. She attended DePaul University as an undergraduate, and recieved her Master's degree in library science from Rosary College. She did additional advanced study at Loyola University, the University of Chicago, St. John's University, and obtained a doctorate from Union Graduate School. Sr. Jane taught at St. Scholastica High School, St. George, St. Hilary and Queen of all Saints, Northeastern Illinois University, and Sam Houston State University. She wrote books on vocations, religious education, library science, and the psalms as well as journal articles. In community, she served as a member of Community Council and on various committees, including leading Benedictines for Peace. She also was a General Chapter delegate, and a Councilor for the Federation of St. Scholastica. She experienced frequent respiratory illness throughout her life and died on May 19th, 1990.
