This collection consists of 1 hanging file of biographical and personal data. It begins with an article from the Raven on the seven postulants entering the community in 1949. It contains Sister's obituary, funeral worship aid, and worship aids from jubilee celebrations, one a few days after her death. Other personal data is reported here, including lists of ministry assignments and next of kin. There is also material related to her service on the first parish council of St. Hilary Parish and the Government Committee for the Call to Life constitutions. There is a 1960 note from herself and another Sister advising Sr. Dolores Schorsch, OSB on revisions to the A Course in Religion curriculum.

Sisters' papers are restricted for 50 years after the Sister's death, until July 6th, 1971. Photographs, previously published, and widely distributed materials are unrestricted.
Biographical / Historical
Sr. Mary Frances Schermerhorn (1930-2021), a graduate of St. Scholastica High School entered the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago in 1949 after one year at St. Theresa College in Winona, MN. She served as a teacher in both the grammar schools and the high schools in Chicago and Colorado, as well as principal at St. John Nepomucene and treasurer of St. Scholastica Academy in Canon City, COlorado and of the Community. Sr. Mary Frances was known to be kind and fair with a good sense of humor. The last 30 years of her life she devoted to the British Infant School as Finance Officer and skilled teacher of young children. Her large family were frequent, friendly guests at the monastery. Her first religious name was Sr. Ellen Marie Schermerhorn, OSB.
