Biographical / Historical
Sister Eleanor Dotterweich, OSB was born Barbara Dotterweich on February 24th, 1871 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She joined the community on July 22nd, 1896, following her two natural sisters Pauline and Dorothy. She was invested in 1897 and made her perpetual vows in 1901.
Sister Eleanor taught at SS Benedict and Scholastica Academy on Market Street, and at Saint Scholastica Academy on Ridge Boulevard in Chicago. She taught embroidery, the Canon City Saint Scholastica Academy Glee club, and other classes. Sister also taught at Saint Mary School in Pueblo, Colorado. She sometimes played the mandolin, and had a dry sense of humor. Sister died on October 15th, 1938, at the age of 67, and is buried in Calvary Cemetery of Evanston, Illinois.
