Biographical / Historical

Sister Lucy Driesch, OSB was born Gertrude Driesch on June 26th, 1893 in Cologne, Germany. She immigrated to the United States as a child, and joined the community at the age of 18 on July 24th, 1911. She made her perpetual profession on July 11th, 1916.

Sister Lucy served may years teaching in the community's schools, beginning at SS Benedict and Scholastica Academy, before serving at every school in the Chicago Archdiocese except Saint Symphorosa. In Colorado, she taught at Saint Leander in Pueblo, Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City, and at summer religious education schools around the state. In addition to teaching, Sister Lucy also often served as local superior and principal. She was also a part of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) from 1926-1934 and from 1943-1950.

Sister died at the age of 75 on August 2nd, 1968 and is buried in the All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
