Biographical / Historical

Sister Bertha Faller, OSB was born Elisabeth Faller on August 22nd, 1863 in Evansville, Indiana. She joined the community on October 15th, 1885, making her perpetual profession in 1891. Sister was a choir Sister who served as a teacher of art embroidery at the twp Chicago academies: SS Benedict, Saint Scholastica on Orleans Street, and Saint Scholastica on Ridge Boulevard. Four large embroidered banners that she made, along with a processional conopy are displayed on the walls of the Heritage Room. In addition to teaching and embroidery, she also served as portress for a number of years. She dies on July 30th, 1958 at the age of 95, and is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery.
