Biographical / Historical
Sister Felicitas Fischer, OSB was born Barbara Fischer in Bavaria on December 19th, 1865. One of six children, she immigrated to the United States with her family in 1886. She joined the community in 1893, making her perpetual vows in 1898 in Canon City, Colorado.
Sister Felicitas taught in several community parish schools, including St. Joseph's, Chicago, St. Scholastica Academy and St. Michael's, Canon City, and St. Michael's, Delta, Colorado. She also spent a few summers in Altamosa, Colorado, doing catechetical work. Sister was a skilled calligrapher, often asked to inscribe graduates' diplomas. She was one of only three to pass the Gregg Shorthand Course in 1902 when the class was offered at St. Scholastica Academy by the author. She had a very shy temperment as well as a short stature, and was the blood sister of Sisters Ermenilda, Celestine, and Imelda (OSB).
She died on December 18th, 1938 at the age of 73 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery.
