 Collection
Identifier: OSBCHI-E-400

Scope and Contents

This collection includes a guidebook prepared for Benedictine Oblate Programs in the early days of NAABOD and some of the materials related to the annual meetings of the organization. The Benedictine Sisters of Chicago used material like this as they prepared and developed their own Oblate Program. There is a set of reports with excerpts of meeting minutes from national conferences. There are also two manuals, one for Oblates and one for Directors of Oblates.

Dates

  • Creation: 1955-2021

Conditions Governing Access

Monastery records are restricted for 50 years after creation. Previously published and widely distributed material is un restricted. Photographs are unrestricted. It is possible that NAABOD has stricter restrictions on the reports from their national meetings.

Biographical / Historical

The earliest record of St. Scholastica Monastery, Chicago, Illinois participating in the National Association for Benedictine Oblate Directors is a group photograph including Sister Benita Coffey, OSB taken at the 1980 conference at St. Anselm's Abbey in Manchester, New Hampshire. The association serves both Oblate Directors and Oblates. The history from the NAABOD website is attached to this finding aid.
