This collection contains biographical information. It includes a personal data sheet, a photocopied Baptismal record, obituaries, news clippings, prayer cards, a third-class linen relic (a piece of linen touched to a relic of Saint Jude), photographs, and archival research correspondence.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Isabell Forney, OSB was born Elisabeth to Alsatian parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 12th, 1869. She entered the community on April 13th, 1894, and made her final profession on August 29th, 1898.

Sister taught first and second grade girls at SS Benedict and Scholastica Academy on Orleans Street and at the Academy of Saint Scholastica on Ridge Boulevard. In the final 15 years of her teaching career, she served as a fifth grade teacher at Saint George Parish School in Chicago. As a teacher she was widely beloved, and was remebered for her joy in telling stories about the lives of the saints to her students. At the monastery, Sister served as portress.

She died at the age of 86 on January 7th, 1956, and is buried in All Saints Cemetery.
