Biographical / Historical
Sister Agatha Frank, OSB was born Marie Frank on July 14th, 1855 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to Bavarian parents. She entered the community on July 10th, 1874 and made her final profession on February 10th, 1879.
Sister Agatha lived her life serving the monastic community first in Chicago, and then, in 1900, in Canon City as one of the Coloroado Academy's founders. In the document placed into the cornerstone of the West Building in Canon City, Colorado, she is listed as a seamstress. She also served as a portress in both Chicago and Canon City, and was very well-known. In Canon City, she was known as the "lion at the door." Her younger sister, Sister Eugene, also joined and served in the community. Her mother lived her final years at the SS Benedict and Scholastica Convent on Orleans Street, Chicago.
Sister Agatha died on October 21st, 1940, at the age of 85 years from pneumonia. She is buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, Colorado.
