Biographical / Historical

Sister Mary Thomas Freeman, OSB was born Mary Ruth Freeman on December 1st, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago in 1938, joining the community on September 11th, 1937. She made her final profession on August 16th, 1942.

Sister Mary Thomas attended DePaul University as well as the Chicago Conservatory of Music, where she earned a certificate in orchestral conduction and voice. She served as a music teacher at St. Scholastica, as well as a fourth grade teacher at Queen of All Saints.

She left the community on January 3rd, 1949. Her married name is Mary Ruth Vandenbroucke. She died on October 9th, 2013, at the age of 93.
