Sister Ruth Gallagher, OSB papers

Sister Ruth Gallagher, OSB was born Flora Marie on October 10th, 1908 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Before entering community, he attended both St. Bernard Parochial School and Cambria Business College, and worked in a business office. She joined the community on September 28th, 1930, making her final vows in 1935.

Sister graduated from DePaul University in 1944 and primarily served as a teacher for primary classes at St. Hilary, Queen of All Saints and St. Symphorosa Schools in Chicago. She taught a variety of courses, including home economics, food and nurtition, child care, nursing, and interior decorating. In community, she was the guest mistress and manager if the Priory's food service program. She also spent time making craft articles for the annual fall festival. Sister also looked after two Vietnamese sisters while they were studing in the U.S.

In her later years, Sister assisted some of her elder relatives in Pennsylvania and Florida. She also served as a companion to home-bound women in the Rogers Park area of Chicago.

Sister Ruth died at the age of 80 on March 3rd, 1989 following a long illness. She is buried in the All Saints Cemetery of Chicago.
