Biographical / Historical
Sister Eileen Gara, OSB was born Eileen Cecelia on January 22nd, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended St. Scholastica High School Chicago and graduated from Mundelein College with a BS in 1967. She also completed a Dietetic Internship in 1975 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Sister entered the community on September 14th, 1960. She took the name Sr. Michaelene, and made her final profession on August 16th, 1967. She changed her name in religion to Sr. Eileen in 1979. She taught at both St. Symphorosa and St. Lambert in Illinois, and at St. Scholastica Academy in Canon City, Colorado.
Sister Eileen left the community on May 27th, 1979, although she continued to keep in close contact with the Monastery, often sending Christmas cards. She died on December 30th, 2002, and was interred at Mountain View Cemetery.
