Biographical / Historical
Sister Adalberta Glatt, OSB was born on April 20th, 1839 in Bavaria. She joined St. Jospeh's convent in St. Mary's Pennsylvania in 1953, making her perpetual vows there on February 10th, 1858.
She was missioned to Chicago in 1861 as a lay sister and companion to the prioress Mother Nepomucene Ludwig. Some historical data from St. Gertrude Monastery in Ridgely, Maryland indicates that she may have been a third prioress from 1862-1864, but this information is highly suspect and not corroborated. Sister Vivian suggests that her name may have been confused with that of Sister Adelgundi Leschall.
She died before returning to St. Mary's at the age of 27 on April 6th, 1866 and is the first community member buried in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago.
