Scope and Contents

This collection consists of biographical information and limited personal papers. It includes prayer cards, obituaries, photographs, a personal data sheet, biographical notes, and photocopied documents providing evidence of her ministries. Personal papers include a DePaul University transcript, and two letters sent by Sister to Virginia Caudle.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Josephine Godec, OSB was born Rose Godec on August 19th, 1900 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was the older natural sister of Sister Bernice Godec, OSB. Sister Josephine entered the community on August 8th, 1915, pronouncing her perpetual vows on September 5th, 1921.

She attended Saint Mary Parish School in Pueblo for her primary education, and continued her education at the Academy of Saint Scholastica and Loyola and DePaul Universities. Sister served as a teacher at Mother of God School in Waukegan, Illinois, at Saint Mary School in Pueblo, and at Saint Scholastica Academy in Chicago.

Sister Josephine died on June 17th, 1938 at the age of 37, following a long illness. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery.
