Biographical / Historical

Sister Paula Heck, OSB was born Genevieve Agnes in Saint Paul, Kansas on January 20th, 1891. She was introduced to the Benedictine Sisters while working as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado. Sister joined the community on October 1st, 1913, making her final profession on July 11th, 1918.

Sister served as a teacher of the primary grades in many of the parochial schools in Illinois and Colorado. During the summer months, she taught in religious vacation schools in Colorado, and worked in the Chicago Area parks with the Catholic Youth Organization, supervising study programs, crafts, and other activites. Her cousin, Judge Al M. Heck, was instrumental in helping the Benedictine Sisters from San Antonio to obtain the Kronkosky property in 1963.

Following her retirement from teaching in 1957, Sister enjoyed making various crafts such as small baskets and boxes out of greeting cards. She also participated in internal ministries and the care of sick sisters.

Sister Paula died at the age of 86 on April 21st, 1977 and is buried in the All Saints Cemetery in Illinois.
