Scope and Contents

This collection consists of biographical information and personal papers. Biographical information includes a personal data sheet, ministry lists, funeral and jubilee materials, photocopied news clipping about Sister, teaching certificates, nearest of kin, prayer cards, numerous photographs of her and her family, and community obituaries.

Personal papers include educational transcripts, limited correspondence pertaining to her death, and annotated prayer cards. Also included is sheet music for two songs published in 1948 by Daniel A. Lord, SJ, "Queen of the Nations" and "For Christ the King." These songs may have been taught by her to her students when she served as choir teacher.

Sisters' papers are restricted for 50 years after the Sister's death. Photographs, previously published, and widely distributed materials are unrestricted.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Anthony Hrusovsky (Roscoe), OSb was born Catherine on September 17th, 1895 in Castle, Colorado to Czechoslovakian parents. She recieved her primary education in a log cabin school and at St. Mary School in Pueblo. She joined the community on June 29th, 1910, making her final profession on July 11th, 1916. Her two natural sisters, Sr. Scholastica and Sr. Stephanie, also joined the community.

Sister continued her education at Chicago's Academy of Saint Scholastica, DePaul and Loyola Universities, and Mount Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas. She primarily served as a tutor and teacher in a number of parochial schools in Illinois and Colorado. These included both the Chicago and Canon City St. Scholastica schools, St. Leander, St. Michael, and St. Anthony in Colorado, and St. Hilary, Mother of God, and St. Joseph in Illinois. In addition to standard classes, she also taught music, piano, home economics, and choir. During summers and weekends, Sister taught religious education classes in various Colorado parishes, and at the Catholic Youth Organization program in Chicago.

Alongside her natural sister, Sr. Stephanie, Sister Anthony also served in a program for the elderly at St. Thomas More Hospital.

Sister Anthony died in St. Joseph's Court on June 20th, 1981 at the age of 85, and is buried in All Saints Cemetery.
