Scope and Contents
This collection consists of biographical information. It includes a personal data sheet, a note on the spelling of her surname, photographs of her and her gravestone, and various community obituaries. One obituary is handwritten in German, and was translated into English by Sister Antoinette Vogel. Also included is archival research correspondence the bulk of which is between community archivist Sister Vivian Ivantic and Sister Scholastica's extended family members and pertains to Sister's life and background.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Scholastica Junk, OSB was born Catherine on February 28th in St. Wendel, Prussia (now Germany). She immigrated to the United States with her parents as a child, and was the natural sister of Sr. Walburga. Sister entered the community on January 28th, 1865 and made her first profession on November 13th, 1866. She made her final profession on November 13th, 1869.
Sister served primarily as a teacher at the various Illinois missions in Warsaw, Nauvoo (where she was also superior), and Kankakee. She also taught German and other subjects at Saint Joseph School Chicago, SS Benedict and Scholastica Academy, and Saint John Nepomucene School. In Baltimore, Maryland, Sister taught at Fourteen Holy Martyrs School. In community, Sister served on the Board of Managers.
Sister Scholastica died in Chicago on May 15th, 1910 at the age of 70. She is buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery.
There is some debate over the proper spelling of Sister's family name: variations include Yunk, Yung, Jung, and Young.
