Biographical / Historical

Sister Walburga Junk, OSB was born Elisabeth on November 26th, 1855 in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant parents from St. Wendel, Prussia (now Germany). She was the natural younger sister of Sister Scholastica Junk, OSB. Sister joined the community on August 14th, 1873 and was invested on May 28th, 1874. She made her first temporary profession on September 19th, 1875.

Sister served as a choir sister, teaching at Saint Scholastica Academy and Saint Joseph School Chicago.

Sister died on August 24th, 1877, at the age of 22 and before her final profession. She is buried in Boniface Cemetery.

Variations of Sister's surname include Yung, Jung, Young, and Yunk.
