Biographical / Historical

Sister Anastasia Kohl, OSB was born Charlotte Anna on February 7th, 1900 in Chicago, Illinois to a German father and an American mother. Her family were long-standing parishoners of Saint Joseph Church. Sister graduated from SS Benedict and Scholastica Academy Chicago in 1917, and entered the community on July 1st, 1920. She made her first vows on January 2nd, 1922, and her final profession on January 3rd, 1925.

Sister attended DePaul University, after which she served primarily as a teacher of Latin and commercial subjects. She also taught some of the inaugural Sunday School classes at what later became Queen of All Saints Parish. In community, Sister served as the typist for many of the issues of the internal publication Our Community.

Sister Anastasia died of a brain abcess on April 11th, 1939. She is buried at the Saint Boniface Cemetery. Sister Adelaide Stuerzel, OSB was her maternal aunt; Sister Elizabeth Kohl, OSB was her niece.
