Scope and Contents

This collection consists of biographical information and personal papers. Biographical information includes basic personal data such as ministry lists, jubilee and funeral materials, community obituaries, and photographs.

Personal papers consist of materials that reflect Sister's life in religion and ministry. They include academic transcripts, teaching and other employment contracts, limited personal and professional correspondence, obediences (which provide insight into Sister's ministry and role in community, particularly in her later years), photocopied news clippings and articles about Sister, community meeting reflections that give a glimpse into her perspective on community life, and more.

Sisters' papers are restricted for 50 years after the Sister's death. Photographs, previously published, and widely distributed materials are unrestricted.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Anne Krall, OSB was born Anna Rose on December 4th, 1928 in Pueblo, Colorado to Yugoslavian parents. One of thirteen children, Sister attended Saint Mary parish school in Pueblo, in which Benedictine Sisters were teachers. Before entering the community, Sister worked at the Minnequa Bank, was active in the parish's music program, and was a talented golf player. She entered the community on September 12th, 1954, making her first vows in 1956. Sister made her final profession on August 16th, 1959.

Sister Anne earned her Bachelor's Degree from Mundelein College. She also attended courses at Saint Xavier College, Saint Procopius College, De Paul and Loyola University. Sister Anne served primarily as a teacher in various parochial schools in Illinois and Colorado. In Illinois, Sister taught at Queen of All Saints School, Saint Joseph School, Saint Hilary School, and Saint Symphorosa School. In Colorado, Sister taught at Saint Michael School in Delta, Saint Leander School in Pueblo, Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City, and Saint Mary School in Pueblo. During the summer months, Sister taught in various vacation school programs in parishes across Colorado. She also ministered at Camp San Benito in Canon City, serving several terms as its director. In addition to teaching, Sister was also the Director of Religious Education in Saint Mary Parish Pueblo for four years, as well as a Senior Prefect, Dorm Counsellor, and homeroom moderator at Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City.

Sister Anne retired from teaching in 1992. However, she continued to keep busy by caring for sick family members and and homebound retirees, aiding in domestic tasks around the Monastery such as cooking, cleaning, and dishes, and by driving Sisters and students to the airport and other appointments.

Sister died on January 5th, 2017 at Saint Joseph Court in Chicago. She is buried at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
