Biographical / Historical

Maytown was a German settlement in Illinois. The Benedictine Sisters opened an elementary school outside Chicago to serve the mission in 1880. Sister Rose Brehm,OSB was the principal until 1883. The school may have been known as the Benedictine Academy. The Benedictine Sisters also staffed Maytown Seminary as a secondary school from 1867-1871 and 1879-1880.

The Sisters also provided religious education in Hennepin, Illinois
