Biographical / Historical
Sister Baptista Krummenacher, OSB was born Emma on February 6th, 1882 in Lucerne, Switzerland. She was a nursing student when she immigrated to the United States, entering the Chicago community on Christmas day, December 25th, 1907. Sister made her first vows on July 12th, 1909, and her final profession on July 26th, 1912.
Sister served the community in a variety of ways: baking altar breads, feeding the chickens, caring for elderly and sick Sisters, and supervising the making of coifs. In Canon City, Colorado, she was appointed infirmarian, and also served as manager of the Saint Scholastica Academy laundry and maintenance departments. She was devoted to Saint Joseph, and often performed as a yodeller at community talent shows.
Sister died on March 6th, 1956, and is buried in All Saints Cemetery.
