Biographical / Historical

Sister Rosalia (Rosa) Kunesh, was born on December 19th, 1882 in Hora, Bohemia (now Czech Republic). She entered the community on October 24th, 1899, and was invested on July 24th, 1900. She made her first vows on July 26th, 1901, and her final profession on July 27th, 1904, in Canon City, Colorado.

Sister graduated from Saint Scholastica High School Chicago and DePaul University. She served as a teacher in various parochial schools in Illinois and Colorado. In Colorado, she taught at Saint Mary School and Saint Anthony School in Pueblo, and at Saint Michael School and Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City. In Illinois, she taught at Saint John School, Saint Joseph School, Saint George School, and Saint Symphorosa School in Chicago, and at Mother of God School in Waukegan. She also served as superior and principal at Saint John School, Saint Michael, and Saint Anthony. During summers, Sister taught religious education classes in Colorado. She also served as a teacher for one year at a Benedictine high school in Sturgis, South Dakota.

In community, Sister assisted as a scribe for the internal publication, "Our Community," and in the gardens at the Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City, Colorado. She died on October 15th, 1959, and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, Colorado.
