Biographical / Historical
Sister Juliana Kunz, OSB was born Gertrud on October 26th, 1857 in Prussia. She joined the community as a lay sister on April 6th, 1875. Sister made her first vows in German on December 8th, 1876, and her final profession on February 26th, 1880. She was the older natural sister of Sister Hildegarde Kunz.
Sister served the community through many different domestic assignments. She was stationed at the first Colorado mission in Breckinridge, Colorado, as well as in Salida, Delta, and the Saint Scholastica convent in Canon City. There, she was in charge of the laundry for many years. In Illinois, Sister served at the Motherhouse in Chicago, and at the Saint Bede Monastery in Peru.
Sister Juliana died on October 5th, 1944, having served the community for over 68 years. She is buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery in Chicago.
