Sister Aloysia Gonzaga Buettgenbach, OSB papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains biographical information and personal papers. Biographical information includes a personal data sheet, several biographical notations and remembrances written about Sister, community obituaries, a photocopied record of her baptism in Latin, and an undated and unsigned written tribute to Sister by her former student and friend. Also included is a photocopied German document, likely her father's will, with an accompanying translation, and a finding aid for a group photograph in which she is pictured.
Personal papers includes archival research correspondence and inquiries, one of which contains a translation and photocopy of one of Sister's poems. Personal papers also include two handwritten journals containing Sister Gonzaga's poetry. The first has a variety of numbered poems, with a calligraphed title in English, "German Poems, Sr. M. Gonzaga." Also included is a note written in German and its translation, which explains Sister Gonzaga's inspiration for poems 44 and 48. The second notebook of German poetry contains occasional poems, or verses composed by Sister Gonzaga for a variety of events such as birthdays, jubilees, funerals, and more.
