Biographical / Historical
In the early 1880s Sister Rose Brehm, OSB led a group of three Benedictine Sisters who taught at Saint Francis of Assisi School in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri. According to Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Sesquicentennial Commemoration booklet, held by the Archdiocese of Saint Louis Archives, Father Henry Mehring hired three Benedictine Sisters to "teach in the school during the scholastic year of 1882-1883, but with the arrival of a new pastor, their contract was not renewed".
