Biographical / Historical
Sister Placidas Hintenberger, OSB (Barbara), was born on February 10, 1873 in Regensburg, Bavaria. She entered St. Mary's Convent in Nauvoo, Illinois on November 1, 1895 and was invested July 25, 1896, receiving the name Sister Placida. She made perpetual vows August 19, 1901. When the Nauvoo community was in financial straits, Sister Placida was one of three who transferred their vows to St. Scholastica Monastery; the document of transfer was dated February 2, 1912. At that time she was renamed Sister Placidas, because St. Scholastica's already had a member named Sister Placida. For many years, Sister Placidas was in charge of the laundry and housekeeper. She died in Chicago May 26, 1956 at the age of 83 and is buried in All Saints Cemetery.
