Biographical / Historical
Sister Benita Cunningham, OSB was born Cecilia Ethel in Patton, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1905. She entered the Benedictine Sisters in June, 1928. She professed temporary vows in August of 1930, and final vows in August of 1933.
Sister served as a teacher at the elementary and secondary levels. At Saint Scholastica HIgh School Chicago, she taught biology and mathematics. Sister Benita was highly respected and much loved by her students. She was also in charge of the Aspirants from 1937-1942.
Sister Benita died at the age of 43 on May 26, 1948, and is buried at Calvary Cemetery. A younger sister, Grace (Sister Joanna) followed her to the Benedictine community.
