Biographical / Historical

Sister Evangelista Amundson, OSB was born Mary Alice in Beloit, Wisconsin on October 31st, 1898 to an English mother and a Norwegian father. She attended school at Saint Scholastica Academy in Canon City, Colorado, before entering the community on January 6th, 1917. She made her first vows on July 11th, 1918, and her final profession on September 5th, 1921.

Sister served as a faculty member at Saint Joseph School in Salida, Colorado. She was dispensed from her perpetual vows, but served at the Academy until her dispensation became final. Sister left the community on November 18th, 1930. Due to mental illness, Sister was purportedly a patient in the State Hospital for the Mentally Ill in Pueblo, Colorado at the time of her dispensation.
