Biographical / Historical
Sister Gertrude Baudermann, OSB was born in Klepsau, Baden in 1842. She came to the United States in 1851 and entered the Benedictine Community in November, 1866. Her temporary vows were professed in 1868 and her final vows were professed in 1871. She celebrated her silver jubilee in 1896 and celebrated her golden jubilee in 1918. Sister Gertrude was a seamstress; she made habits for the sisters and repaired habits for the monks at St. Joseph Priory. Her stooped posture reflected the constant work performed over a sewing machine. She died on May 23, 1925 at the age of 82. Sister is buried in Calvary Cemetery. Her younger sister (Sister Mechtild) entered the Benedictine Community at the same time.
