Biographical / Historical
Sister Mechtild Baudermann, OSB was born in Klebsau, Baden in 1846. She and her older sister (Sister Gertrude) entered the young Benedictine Community in 1866. She made triennial vows in German in 1868 and final vows in Latin in 1871. She celebrated her silver jubilee in 1876 and golden jubilee in 1918. She died on July 2, 1921 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery near her sister's grave. Sister Mechtild was a teacher and served at a number of schools including St. Mary's in Nauvoo, Fourteen Holy Martyrs in Baltimore, St. John Nepomucene and St. Joseph in Chicago, and St. Boniface in Pueblo, Colorado. During her years in Chicago, she served as a trustee to the Board of Managers, and several times as the novitiate mistress.
