Scope and Contents

This collection includes a personal data sheet, next of kin information, ministry listing, personal notes and letters. There are a number of obituaries, commentaries written by Sister Barbara McCarry, OSB, Sister Mary Ann O'Ryan, OSB, and Sister Ann Sharp, OSB, a wake service, and funeral Mass worship aid. Finally, there are several prayer cards marking the deaths of family members. Several photographs of Sister Blanche are shown at various events.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Blanche Beary, OSB was born in Ireland in 1904. She and her natural sister (Sister Columba Beary, OSB) worked as domestics in the United States before entering the Benedictine Community in August of 1927. Sister Blanche was finally professed in August, 1932. Her ministry entailed service as a housekeeper and cook at various convents in Chicago and in Canon City, Colorado. At the priory she spent numerous hours preparing food; 3 meals a day, 7 days a week throughout the entire year, for the sisters, workmen, students, guests, and clergy. Sister Blanche celebrated her silver jubilee in 1954, her golden jubilee in 1979. After a long illness, Sister Blanche died on June 20, 1982 and is buried opposite her sister's grave in All Saints Cemetery.
