This collection consists of biographical information and personal papers. Biographical information includes a personal data sheet, jubilee and funeral materials, diplomas, photographs, ministry lists, teaching certifcates, and more.

Personal papers include correspondence, academic transcripts, obediences and personnel board interviews, and personal artefacts and ephemera. Much of the correspondence is to and from the Servants of the Holy Ghost congregation, whom she was entrusted with as a child.

Sister's papers are restricted for 50 years after creation and restricted for 50 years after her death. Photographs, previously published and widely distributed materials are unrestricted and available for review.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Mary Bede Beck, OSB was born in Chicago in 1906. At a very young age she was entrusted to the Missionary Sisters, Servants of the Holy Ghost in Techny, Illinois. She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in June, 1925. Sister Mary Bede entered the Benedictine Sisters in January, 1927 and professed final vows in 1931. She celebrated her golden jubilee in 1979 and her diamond jubilee in 1989. Sister Mary Bede served in the classroom both on the elementary and secondary levels. She spent several years as the librarian for both high schools. Sister Mary Bede was known for her gentle, reserved, and quiet nature. She was an excellent and interesting conversationalist. She died after a lengthy illness on May 31, 1995. She is buried in All Saints Cemetery.
