Biographical / Historical
Marie Becker (Sister Magdalena Becker, OSB) was born in Wheeling, Illinois in 1864, She entered the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago in January 1888. She was finally professed in November 1892. Sister Magdalena taught elementary school at Fourteen Holy Martyrs in Baltimore, Maryland and in Creston, Iowa for the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She was the first directress of St. Mary's School in Pueblo, Colorado when it opened in 1897. Sister Magdalena died in February, 1901, just short of her 37th birthday. Her body was brought to Chicago and was interred in St. Boniface Cemetery.
