Biographical / Historical

Sister Martina Bisson, OSB was born in 1891 in New Jersey. She entered the Benedictine Sisters in February 1910 and was finally professed in 1914. For approximately 23 years, Sister Martina taught primarily first and second grade students. She taught elementary school at St. Michael's in Delta, Colorado, St. Joseph's in Salida, Colorado, and St. Symphorosa's in Chicago. She was declared a "master teacher" by many because she was able to teach both reading and writing to any student no matter what challenges they possessed. In April, 1934 she requested a dispensation from her vows which was granted in August, 1934.
