Scope and Contents
This collection is a drop file with several folders. It contains personal data of Sister Paschal Engelhardt, OSB, her obituary and other materials from her funeral. It also contains a small series of correspondence from friends and family, a short autobiography that Sister Paschal wrote the year before she died, and several photographs.
In 2005, Reinhard Dierkes of Bilshausen, Germany, used material from our archives as an aid in preparing the monograph Veronika Engelhardt - oder Sister Mary Paschal, OSB. Eine Spurensickerung a study of this emigree from his hometown.

Conditions Governing Access
This collection is open to researchers. The remaining restriction on correspondence (April 2027) was lifted by Sister Mary Susan Remsgar, OSB in February 2025.
Biographical / Historical
Sister Paschal Engelhardt, OSB was born in Bilhausen, Germany, one of 14 children. She came to Chicago in 1926 to enter the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, responding to a call for Sisters from Mother Imelda Fischer, OSB. Trained as a seamstress, Sister Paschal continued this work in community - in Chicago and Colorado. She is remembered for her kindness, creativity, and deep faith in God.
