News articles, 1942 - 1978

This series consists of two photocopies of news articles concerning or featuring Sister Celestine and her artworks. In an article published by the Chicago Daily News on September 5th, 1942 entitled, "Artist-Nun Reviews 50 Years of Work," Sister discusses her artistic processes, her artistic legacy, and the varying mediums with which she works. Primarily, she discusses her work in the Saint Scholastica Monastery Chapel in Chicago, in which she painted and designed the 14 stations of the cross on porcelain from 1910-1922, as well as a series of 8 stained glass windows representing the canonical hours. Also discussed is her work on hand-illuminated manuscripts.

A second article published November 4th, 1978 in the Pueblo Chieftan and Saturday Star-Journal, entitled "Canon City's St. Scholastica chapel soon to fall victim of wrecker's ball" discusses the potential demolition of the Academy's chapel. In the Saint Scholastica Academy Canon City chapel Sister, Celestine was responsible for the creation some of the artworks, including 2 paintings of St. Scholastica and St. Benedict displayed near the altar.
