Scope and Contents

A handwritten note indicates that much of the information in this history comes from Where There Was Need (1965) by Sister Genevieve Harrison, OSB. It begins with Reverend Louis Fink, OSB asking Abbot Boniface Wimmer, OSB for Benedictine Sisters to staff the parish school at Saint Joseph Parish in Chicago, Illinois. Material added by Sister Vivian Ivantic, OSB runs up to June 1878 with the election of Sister Ann Sharp, OSB as prioress and the establishment of an office for fundraising due to the projected construction of an infirmary building. The date of creation (1979) was supplied by Sister Mary Ann, O'Ryan in a later edition of this history.
