John P. Daleiden family papers, 1931-1998
Scope and Contents
Sister Vivian Ivantic, OSB assembled this collection of materials related to the John P. Daleiden family due to the importance of their religious goods store in Chicago, Illinois. The store and factory located at 1530 N. Sedgewick Avenue, which had closed in the 1980s, was purchased by Sister Patricia Cowley, OSB in 1995 and converted to a shelter for unhoused women.
It includes family trees and correspondence between the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago and Sister Laurentia Daleiden, SCC, Adelaide B. Agnew, and John Brost. It also includes obituaries of Reverend Joachim Daleiden, OSF and Winifred M. Brost, a 1943 adverisement of the Daleiden store, as well as community notes about the family.
The book The King's Steward: A True Story (1931) was a gift from Adelaide B. Agnew. It is the story of John P. Daleiden under the pseudonym George Schumann.
