Correspondence Greenwood Press, 1977-2008
Scope and Contents
This collection includes materials regarding her biographical and personal data, as well as two boxes of personal papers.
Box 1 contains material related to Sr. Jane Reilly, OSB's early education, her work as a high school teacher and a librarian, as well as her work in the Chicago Public Library. The dedication booklet for the Fine Arts Building of Saint Scholastica High School was written by Sr. Jane and Sr. Eleanore Hillenbrand, OSB and contains photographs and descriptions of her plan for the new high school library in 1959. The letters are to or from Sr. Jane, to family, friends, and community, but the bulk are related to her work and publishing of her books and articles.
Box 2 contains material related to Sister Jane Reilly's education and writings, particularly reflections delivered at community liturgies, articles about religious life and librarianship. There are some loose papers related to her service on the Federation Council, as a General Chapter delegate, Councilor, and Visitator. A more authoritative collection of that material is in the Federation Archives at Mount Saint Scholastica Monastery in Atchison, Kansas. Her awards include the 1982 Claude A. Pepper Award for Distinguished Service, given by the U.S. Representative Claude Pepper, recognizing the outstanding contributions of workers over age 55.
