Biographical / Historical
The Catholic Schools Data collection provides insight into the nature and scope of Catholic education in Chicago and Illinois. School directories published by the Archdiocese of Chicago include enrollment numbers, addresses and telephone numbers for schools, and other resources for Catholic families. In 1950, the Archdiocese published a 25 year progress report that includes photographs of schools, dates of construction, who operates the schools, and enrollment numbers. Norma Paul's survey report on Catholic schools in Illinois documents how religious orders provided education to communities across the state. All together, these materials highlight how communities' education needs were served from preschool through university.
