Biographical / Historical
Sister Edna (Claudia) Cooper, OSB was born in Canon City, Colorado in 1904. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. Sister Edna attended the Academy beginning in 4th grade. She graduated in 1923 and became a Catholic in 1924. Sister Edna entered the Benedictine community in October, 1927. Temporary vows were professed in 1929 and final profession was in August, 1932. She celebrated her silver jubilee in August 1954 and her golden jubilee in June, 1979. The majority of her religious life was spent at St. Scholastica in Chicago and at The Academy in Canon City, Colorado. She served as librarian, managed the switchboard. Sister Edna was an avid stamp collector, and sold stamps, doing her part to contribute to community needs. As a historian sister had a gift for dates and details, especially regarding Colorado history. She died on April 6, 1985 at the age of 80 years old. She is buried at All Saints Cemetery.
