This collection includes biographical information such as a personal data sheet, a next of kin listing, ministry assignments, teaching certificates, a diploma, jubilee and funeral materials, obituaries, prayer cards, and photographs.

Personal papers reflect Sister Maurus Becker's various achievements, relationships, and memberships. They include academic transcripts and grade reports, personal and professional correspondence, photocopied news articles, prayer cards, a personal prayer book, awards and membership certificates, and an unbound book produced for the 1979 Becker family reunion.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Maurus Becker, OSB was born in Chicago in 1904. She entered the Benedictine Community at the age of 15. Her final profession was celebrated on February 10, 1926. She celebrated her silver, golden, and diamond jubilees. In 2002, Sister Maurus marked her 80th anniversary as a Benedictine Sister. For 55 years she served in the capacity of teacher and principal in parish schools both in Chicago and in Colorado. Once she retired from active teaching, she assisted in the English Department at St. Scholastica Academy - Chicago in the ESL program. Her talents also extended in the area of serving as the community baker and cook at the priory. As her final ministry, Sister Maurus prayed the rosary along with other infirmed sisters. She died in May 2004, a few months short of her 100th birthday.
