Scope and Contents

This item is a bound black journal containing Mother Antonia's handwritten German prayers. It is dated May 15th, 1869, and titled "Chicago...St. Benedict et Schoasticas, Convent," with "St. Joseph, Minnesota" also written in the corner of the first page or flyleaf. A typed note included with the book states, "In the days before typewriters many Sisters filled composition books with their prayers, thoughts, letters, and poems they composed and copied. This book contains prayers in German."

Scope and Contents This item is a bound tan journal in Mother Antonia's German cursive handwriting with questions and answers in black and red ink. It is titled "Schiller's Wilhelm Tell, Fragen und Antworten [Questions and Answers]...St. Scholastica's Academie Chicago, Ill." The play "Wilhelm Tell" or in English, William Tell, was written and published by Friedrich Schiller in 1804. It tells the story of a Swiss national folk hero who fights for Swiss independence against a tyrannical and oppressive ruler....
