This sub-series is comprised of a couple papers listing the Sisters who ran summer schools of religion in Coal Creek, Colorado, along with the years they worked. The 28 students who attended the 1933 vacation school taught by Sr. Leona Schmitt, OSB, appear in two photographs. Also included is "The Gleanor," an article from an unnamed publication on the coal mines surrounding CaƱon City, Colorado, which includes a description of Coal Creek prior to a 1907 fire that wrecked the town.

Cortez, Colo.

Scope and Contents

Little is known about the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's time in Cortez, Colorado. Sr. Mary Cornella taught out of St. Margaret Mary Church for one summer in the 19th century, although it is unknown when, where, or how many pupils she had. The sub-series contains a fragment of an article from The Southern Colorado Register regarding a mission in Towaoc, Coloado, primarily for use by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.

All this sub-series contains is a short list of which Sisters led summer schools of religion in Craig, Colorado, along with which years they taught sessions between when they first entered the town in 1937 and when they finally left in 1973. Also included is a map highlighting where Craig is located in Colorado.

Scope and Contents This sub-series contains a sheet of oral history stories from the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's time in Crested Butte, Colorado. Originally St. Patrick Church, Sisters would later run vacation schools out of Queen of All Saints. The latter's architecture was beautiful enough to warrent a story in the Southern Colorado Register, which is also included. Scope and Contents Unlike many of the other towns in this series, the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago never taught summer schools of religion in Cripple Creek, Colorado, but many children who attended vacation schools lived in the town. This slim sub-series contains nothing more than a sheet of paper listing Sisters who taught at vacation schools in Delta, Colorado, where the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago were stationed from 1950 until 1974. In addition to summer schools of religion, some Sisters also worked at St. Michael School.

Dolores, Colo., 1936 - 1942

Scope and Contents The Benedictine Sisters of Chicago ran two vacation schools in Dolores, Colorado. The first was taught by Sr. Maurus Becker, OSB, and Sr. Anthony Hrusovsky, OSB, who had to drive 40 miles to the town; the second by Sr. Perpetua Guenther, OSB, but the year of this session is unknown. It may have been in 1936, as one photograph suggests. Two more images are included: one of Sr. Anthony Hrusovsky, OSB, a priest, and their pupils, along with a more recent picture of Our Lady of Victory...

This series contains a couple photographs of Sr. Constance Matern, OSB, and Sr. Anthony Hrusovsky, OSB, a priest, and their vacation school group outside St. Mary Church in Eagle, Colorado. Also included are some pictures taken during a 1989 archive trip Sr. Vivian Ivantic, OSB, and Sr. Eleanore Hillenbrand, OSB, took to Colorado. The list of Sisters who taught at the summer schools of religion in Eagle may be incomplete, as the second page of the list is missing.
